There is no way for Germany back to the "Deutsche Mark", at least not with a great loss, economically and in its standing as reasonable power. Without alienating its neighbours Germany has to be responsible in its role as a leading economic power in Europe and for Europe. If there is anything to learn from the past its that Europe must stay united and keep the single currency. Any other response is single minded, just populist and a way to satisfy the view of radicals from the left and right. A mill cannot grind with the water that is past.
