Because the students are not specialists of the Shoah ; they just have general culture about it. They can't always see the tricks Irving may use, nor see all his lies or half-lies. They can't check during the confrontation what Irving may say. This will just make more people be confused, and will make some people doubt about some facts of the Shoah. It will make Holocaust denial more and more usual, untill it will be presented as "an opinion"... This Tryl is an stupid person, unaware of what he is playing with.
