Unfortunately, they don't as of yet have such understanding. Voting in favor of releasing those prisoners is just a bitter pill they decided to swallow with an expectation of staving off having to make much more serious moves. Israel has become like Iran in this regard: coming up with ploys to buy time with a view to delaying a final showdown or even hoping the issue somehow goes away. We AAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL know that the only possible outcomes are two states for two people -- which inevitably involves giving up their precious West Bank -- or a single, binational state, which would be the death warrant of Israel as the Jewish homeland. The pygmies leading Israel at the moment do not have the courage to decisively pursue either course of action. In the end, Israel will become a South Africa in its latter days, and a solution will be imposed on us externally, and it will be much more unpalatable than anything we could negotiate here and now.
