During the war you're talking about (which lasted five years) Jewish refugees were interned in Britain too, following the same reasoning. Most of the internees understood why and, certainly in retrospect, accepted it with equanimity in exchange for the privilege of remaining alive. The military government was lifted here decades ago, granting those it affected theoretical citizens' rights. Creating physical areas of impoverishment is folly wherever it's done and in this context was particularly misguided. Decent education, a sewage system and public transport on paved roads are basic rights.
