Peres doesn't want to divide Jerusalem. But he does want to give away a sliver of land to the PA that will create a barrier (and rocket-launching pad) between the suburbs of Ramot and Pisgat Zeev. Shoafat is an entirely artificial creation of the UN, one of their so-called "refugee camps", built along the old J'lem-Nablus road. In a final settlement, the UN-funded "refugee camp" enterprise becomes obsolete and will be defunded; lacking an economy, Shoafat collapses, since (along with the other so-called "refugee camps") it has no legitimacy. Shoafat should be razed, and its population transferred to proper towns in the PA state, or to the old Kalandia airport grounds, with its industrial park, which PA can keep, since they wrecked the runway. The land under Shoafat is Israeli, and should stay Israeli, connecting the N. J-lem suburbs. Time to end this 60-year "refugee camp" fraud once and for all. There was no Shoafat "town" there before UN created and paid for it.
