Did you ever see a cow lie down on its spine? The cradle method puts a cow on its back with the weight of its organs and huge belly full of ofal pressing on to its diaphram and lungs restricting breathing, heart and forcing regurgitation of cud. That's distressful. Never saw a cow lie on anyting except its belly, and I lived I Iowa and they have a lot of cows. If a cow is lying on its side it means its very very sick cow, and never on its back. Unless and until someone does an EEG comparing the two methods imperically, I don't see that anyone can make a judgment in this regard. A cow is no more appropriately hoisted by its legs than turned on its spine, even with hip support. What happened to the old method of shackeling/hobble and kneeling? Too time consuming I'll bet.
