Besides the tempting emotional imagery, there is no parallel between the loss of Palestinian homes in 1948 and the evacuation of Israeli settlers from Gaza. The historical context is entirely different; while Palestinians left (fled or in some cases, were expelled) their homes under the context of a pending Arab invasion, Israeli's are forced to leave their homes as the result of a calculated political concession with absolutely no material reciprocity. What is more; not only did many Palestinians leave under their own volition (under the context of Egyptian promises that the Jews would be wiped out in the war, and Palestinians could return to their homes in a Juden-rein state), many willingly sold their land. With this understanding, the Israeli decision to allow these evacuated homes to stand is entirely independent of the supposed guilt Israel should feel (it should not)after 1948. These homes are being left as a sign of goodwill by Ariel Sharon and the Israeli government who have made it clear that their dedication is to peace. This is not a war against the Palestinian people who will hopefully peacefully inhabit these homes, this war is against the murderous echelons of Palestinian society who have abbandoned their people in favor of a losing battle against the Jews.
