Your inuendo about my wanting to become a monk (again you misinterpret but what else is new) is meant contemptuously. It is intended as a dig. No matter. This is not about me nor do I need you to preach to me about Jewish community and sense of peoplehood. I have a deep connextion to both but not uncritically as you do. All of this wedding of crass nationalism and arrogance does not represent Judaism to my mind and the mind of millions of other Jews who find the occupation intolerable both morally and ethically. You justify it. I am aware of our communal history and how we were formed as a people. It is that very sense that makes me cry out against the direction Israel has taken and the justifications it gives for continuating its occupation and treatment of the Palestinians. All I can say is that we have a tremendous soul serching to do as a people this Yom Kippur. Hashem himself called us a Am Kshe Oref, a stiff necked people.
