Obama has openly stated the use of chemical weapons by Assad would be a 'game changer'. Presumably the number of Syrians killed is irrelevant to the US so long as they are killed by conventional weapons. It is feasible that the Israeli government sees an escalation of the conflict is in its interests; that the USA be pulled into the conflict and take on Assad and thus weakens Iran. It is also feasible that the Israeli government sees an escalation of the conflict as in its interests as it deflects world attention from the occupation of the Palestinians. Wilkinson has merely indicated that the evidence against Assad is 'flakey' and both the rebels and Israel have motivation to implicate Assad by a false flag operation. He is right to be suspicious of Israel.
