The Jews of France are not that powerful. First of all, they are less than 1 % of the population. Second thing : they are not very rich and in power positions like some American Jews (in average, french Jews are not much richer than the other French people). They have a representative institution, the CRIF (Conseil Représentatif des Institutions Juives de France), but that's not actually a lobby -unlike the AIPAC, that is a true lobby in America-, even if it sometimes meets (about once a year) the political leaders, just like the representative institutions of other religious groups do. About Sarkozy : he is not that much close to the Jews. He is close to France, and above all close to the people with big incomes and/or properties. He admires the abilities of Israel, and respects its rights, but he also supports Palestinian rights.
