this is such a silly discussion! The premise - that people all over the world celebrate new years - is just simply wrong. Christians celebrate new years, and most media and news organizations started making a big deal 20 yrs ago...and made it look like everyone celebrates it. As a consequence more people do say "happy new year" but its really just a day that the date changes for most people. Really. Secular Israelis try harder to be like the rest of the world than anyone else...but to do so they need to create a fictional universe of things "everyone does" so they can desperately do these things. It was quaint before the internet...but really, wake up. Go live somewhere else as an adult and see what normal people do and you'll stop being endlessly jealous of all this nonsense.
