Biometrics is the wrong road to go down, a trial process is easy but once it comes to putting into full scale operation. Going to apply for or renew a passport will be a complicated process, right now you need a passport is easy, getting a new ID card is easy but biometric will be complicated. A biometric database is also going to be a gift to organised crime and terrorists. We have already had thngs like banks hacked and we have generals with a bad habbit of leaving classified documents in the back of taxis so such detailed informtaion on an ID card is not a good idea. They should existing proven cheap and practical technology like the chip & pin like they use on credit cards in Europe whereby you have a coded chip on the card with the information and you have to input a pin number. We also don't need to put anymore than the basic facts that are on existing cards. No matter what technology they use the card itself must be credit card size so it fits easily into a wallet. Plenty of times I have left my ID card at home because its just annoying having to carry a sperate oversized ID card . I want something I can put in my wallet as easily as a credit card.
