The right wing is now insisting that they will not agree to a settlement freeze until the Palestinians recognize the Jewish State of Israel. They never insisted that Egypt and Jordan agree to this before the negotiations, during the negotiations, and in the peace treaties that were signed, and in their back door negotiations with Syria the main thing discussed were security guarantees, not recognizing Israel as a Jewish nation. It seems that the right wing is doing whatever it can to make things worse and ensure that a dispute over land is now a dispute over religion. Rabin, Peres, Barak, and Olmert never insisted on these things so one has to assume Netanyahu is not serious about peace. If he was there would be no Leiberman, and no loyalty oath, but Netanyahu seems to be more concerned about what is best for Bibi Netanyahu, not what is best for Israel, and that is not the mark of a true leader.
