Daniel Levy's piece was excellent. Is a war of civilizations, as advocated by the 'lunatic fringe' of the Christian Right, in Israel's best interests? The Bush administration's 'war on terror' supports a bipolar vision of the world reminiscent of much darker times of our western past, but how incredibly naieve such a view is today. Arab nations and even terror arganisations like hezbollah, have long moved away from the defeatist mentality of the 1970's so charactersitic of Arab regimes. The landscape today has dramatically changed, not only on account of 9/11 but more importantly on the disproportionate invasion of Iraq, and where that has left neocon idealism? Greater insecurity for Israel and her allies.
