Wars don't end with the end of the shooting by one side. The 1967 Arab Israeli war is not over, even today. If Israel goes in and occupies Lebanon, it will have to govern and run things. Where does Israel get the population base for that? If Israel decapitates the Syrian government, somebody has to govern afterward. And if Israel re-establishes a presence in Gaza, that will take troops, too. How many million troops can a country of seven million spare for decades of occupations and nation building? The US took 55,000 casualties in Iraq in less than a decade. And we're getting out.
