    And our national interest is not to have a Palestinian state. What country in the world really bases it's policy on morality or justice? Such a thing has never existed & will never exist. That's not how the world works. Now, admittedly, politicians can easily misunderstand their country's national interest, they can have selfish motives, they can confuse their personal interest with the interests of the state, & they need an ideology or position that sells. Even dictatorships need some popular support. We don't need to apologize or rationalize why an independant Palestine is not in our interest - the facts are ever so evident. All wishful thinking notwithstanding, a Palestinian state will fail - and we will have a bigger problem than today. All this discussion of "having a partner" is meaningless BS. Our only real national interest is to our security & whatever we need to do to maintain our security, regardless of the consequences to our neighbors, is what policy should be based on
