The US like everybody else was furious when Israel bombed Saddam Hussains reactor and they voted in favor of passing a UN resolution condemning Israel over it. In 1981 Saddam Hussain was Americas ally n the Iran / Iraq war. its only after Desert Storm the rest of the world realized that what they has all condemned Israel for 10 years earlier was the sole reason why they were not trying to get a nuclear armed Saddam Hussain out of Kuwait. In 1981 Israel took the US by surprise. Today though a surprise attack would be impossible for two reasons 1) The US now has an X Band radar station in the Negev and as soon as they picked up the planes leaving Israeli airspace they would be onto their bosses in Washington and provided he wasn't away playing golf they would be onto Obama who would phone Bibi and order the planes turn around. 2) The US has 2 carrier fleets in Iraq and an airbase in Bahrain they would pick up any Israeli planes and again Obama would be on the phone to Bibi saying get them to turn around or we are going to send our boys to intercept you. The point of Israel or the US taking action is to avoid a regional arms race and to stop Iran from getting nukes which they will use to bully their neighbors ( arabs included ). There is even a risk of nuclear material being passed onto terrorists or Iran helping its allies develop nukes. There are very good reasons for attacking Iran problem is Obama doesn't have the guts to pick a fight he can't win without a teleprompter unless its against Israel.
