That's because they didn't exist there for that period of time and there was no Land of Palestine with borders ever, no Palestinian Princes or Kings, no Palestinian currency, and no "Palestinian" contributions to the world in art, science, technology, etc. Muslims only spread to the area because of their Imperial Islamic beliefs and they didn't convince others through sitting under olive trees and reasoning from the Koran with them but by pressing sharpened swords up against their necks and asking them not so nicely if they'd like to convert or not. When Imperial Islam is 1000 miles from its spiritual center, who is occupying who? You don't take the Land of Israel, the City of Jerusalem, and the Jewish People that all became of world renown in ancient times and then think the destruction of Israel, Jerusalem, and the worldwide dispersion of the captive Jews by world power Rome would keep them down forever when their biblical destiny is to return to their homeland and prosper with tenacity. The Palestinians had every chance in the history book to make peace with the descendants of the ancient Jews of the land but that meant sharing and Imperial Islam doesn't share nicely or at all. You should have been around to warn them of the stakes of being so greedy and covetous back in '48 and taking such a big military gamble against the nascent Jewish State even with the odds looking so good in the militant Palestinians favor. Now they have to deal with Israel's strategic depth needs and they aren't trivial when the Palestinians are always looking for any kind of tact or technique to bring Israel down.
