I do think that today's Poles deserve a chance to prove their humanity. My uncle, apparently, was killed as well when he returned at the end of the war. He returned to resume his very shattered life in the community he knew where he had many Polish friends. That some bigoted Pole did this to him doesn't mean today's Poles are at all sympathetic with the barbarous behaviour. We Jews have also sinned historically out of ignorance and bigotry but that behaviour cannot and should not be pinned on Jews who curently live. Yes, there were many good Poles and undoubtedly many Poles who behaved horribly. Let that be behind all of us.
