His grandmother came back to Cyprus in 1963 to visit old friends and relations. Eventually, she died there in 1973. Mr.Ayalon and other family members came to take her body to Israel. For whatever reasons I don?t know they say they were obstructed by the Turkish employees and could only take the body back 2-3 months later. In 1973, Cyprus was still a unified (!) country but the Turks were, like the Palestinians today, already living in ghettos and cantons for security reasons. It seems Mr.Ayalon has a long lasting grudge and doesn?t forget easily. But then, nor do the Turks: would the need arise again ?history has the bad habit of repeating itself-, the Turkish diplomats will think twice before they lift a finger to save another Jew... Considering the ?thank you? they got recently from a descendent of one of the recipient of their positive attention, nobody could blame them for it either...
