The Shers were obviously very upset.They should have taken the 'high ground' by themselves going to the Captain and registering a complaint.But by the time he got to be involved ,I suppose there was so much said,that the original incident as reported maybe seemed minor compared to what followed.Having myself worked as a musician for Cunard (many years ago on the original QE2,I can say that there were many Jewish passengers.The ship had a Kosher Kitchen,a synagogue etc. Perhaps all of our unfortunate problems with our government,neighbours.Leiberman at the UN etc, has upset lots of public opinion about Israel, and of course the rest of the world,with only a smattering of knowledge,really thinks that every Jew in the world agrees with everything regarding Israel.This is not the case but Jews are getting sick and tired of carrying the can for our policies and mistakes.whilst not necessarily being ant Israeli.Hence J Street etc,.
