It's well understood that Israel's left has never forgiven the electorate for voting them out of office in 1977. Some went so far as to insist the people had "voted wrong". But there's a reason so many believe that Israel "votes Right and gets Left". For the real power resides not in the Knesset coalition or even in the Prime Minister's Office. It resides in the hands of those who control the cultural environment and the economic resources. That economic power resides in the hands of the 20 or so families (mostly Ashkenazi and secular). And those secular liberals/humanists hold most of the power in Israel's universities, its media, its culture, and the court systems. Even within the IDF, as the Religious Zionists are increasingly prominent in the lower and middle officer classes, the senior leadership is mostly associated with the secular left. Strenger's people are "in power" and he doesn't even know it.
