Also most rabbis weren't against giving it back at that time. I guess the rabbis were shocked that the temple mount was in their hands after 2000 years. They simply couldn't handle the responsibility and were unprepared at that time to build the temple so they gave it back probably more as a reflex. If you were living then you would have understood better the shock of it all. Also Israel was a country of one in a half million people.They may have felt that if they keep it there would be another war very soon.I agree we shouldnt have given the WAKF the temple mount.
