It is wrong to assume that Hamas' contumacious refusal to recognize past agreements stems from a lack of improvement in the everyday life of Palestinians. Everyone knows that the path of diplomacy (even with its many flaws and shortcomings) is the only civilized way to attempt to end this conflict. Hamas rejected these agreements, and therefore negotiation as a means to end the conflict, because Hamas has no desire whatsoever to see the conflict ended on these terms. The only possibility Hamas sees is an absolute victory constituting the liberation of all of historic Palestine from Jewish presence. If Hamas was genuinely motivated by a desire to see improvement in the lives of Palestinians, would they have staged a violent coup that would lead directly and inevitably to the increased isolation of the Gaza strip? Hamas is not stupid. And did you not see Hamas firing blindly into crowds of protestors? This is a movement that cares for its own people?
