What Peres, ( Bibi first term ), Barak and Olmert have all had is nobody has ever thought about what would happen IF one day the Assad regime and its stability brought were to topple. Even in the arab world there is only so long a dictator can survive. Olmert was the really blind one because he was willing to give it all up and whilst he was PM he could see from Iraq's example what happens if a dictator falls, Hezbollah were a problem that never went away. What we must not do is rush to do a deal over the Golan with some post Assad government to show how committed Israel is to peace with Syria which sadly I believe they will do especially if Labor win the next election because Shelly Y is from the more hard left and she will probably invite the far left Meretz into any coalition and she will be desperate to make her mark in the history books.
