I personally believe freedom of expression should extended to even racists and that those who blaspheme other's religions should be protected under law. However, I think one should chose to use their freedom responsibly and be reverent towards holy things--one's own and, where possible, those of others. It's hard for many of us to understand how so many people empower a random newspaper editor to cause us to go crazy and turn violent--I certainly don't understand. But the cause shouldn't be to celebrate insensitivity. The Iranians aren't winning any points by encouraging holocaust denial. Let them sink in their own mud. Encouraging anti-semitic cartoons may be interpreted as a license to others to do likewise. A better response would be to send cartoons mocking their president's ignorance in denying the holocaust to the iranian paper (w/ccs to free press papers to make their censors accountable) and place bets on whether they can show them without being shut down.
