    Like many Americans who have settled in Israel during the course of the past 20 years, this author is obvlivous to the fact that life in Israel, both culturally and in terms of lifestyle, is very much like the USA. In fact one could say that the "Aliyah" of people like this author is the act of an American moving to the 51st state of his own country, more or less. If Israel would like to attract a large migration from Western Countries in particular and the USA in general, it would have to offer an actual cultural alternative to the USA. In fact, it does not, and this is just one more evidence of that. As far as exclusion is concerned, these private "proms" that is the point, to exclude those people who they consider "lesser" and are not part of the annointed clique.
