i grew up in a conservative shul in the american south, and i can tell you that while i thought i was learning a lot going to hebrew school and sunday school, mostly in the 60's, a total of 5 hours a week, i was actually learning a lot of nothing and being kept back from learning the chumash, mishnah, and shas that i should have been taught, and that i was perfectly capable of soaking up had i been exposed to these texts. yes, there is a tone of anger here. i hope that conservative judaism dies a natural death, and that those who are not interested in reform judaism stumbled into or get snagged into a orthodox shul of whatever stripe attracts and holds them.
