"How many political parties in the EU have militias? It is unacceptable and illegitimate for any one to do this." - Lynn Lynn, diplomacy is "the art of the possible", and in post #77 I described how impossible (practically) is the US approach. As far as militias, they are illegal in most/all independent countries, which the PA is not. Britain sufferred from a terror organization, the IRA, for many years. But to put an end to the situation, it engaged in peace talks and came to an agreement with them. Had it just proclaimed that the IRA was an illegal organization, that would have solved nothing. Israel itself had 3 militias before independence: The Haganah, Etzel, and Lehi (Stern group). The last two were only dismantled some 2 weeks AFTER the Declaration of independence. (The Haganah was transformed into the IDF.)
