Toward the end of the Oslo accords, the LA Times did an article on local Palestinians who had decided to return home to help "build" a society. The family that sticks in my mind is a pair of doctors who wanted to build a hospital. They packed up their teenage children, who didn't speak Arabic, and headed home. A few months later Arafat missed his last chance to have over 90% of both Gaza and the West Bank. I cannot get that family out of my mind. Arafat betrayed them so; it broke my heart when I read that Mrs. Arafat was living in Europe and spending over $1 million a day. Even if one dismisses what they are doing to Israelis, how can they do this to their own? Erekat is cut from the same cloth.
