While there is truth to the fact that some sectors of the haredi community are rabidly racist, there remains the sad truth that Meretz itself is rabidly anti-religion. The sad truth is that Meretz is seen by the majority as a one-issue party: "end the occupation". Once upon a time, the parties that banded together to make Meretz (anybody remember them) stood for socio-economic responsibility. They were social democratic parties who wanted the best policies for the nation. Today, Meretz is nothing. It's 3 members in the Knesset will probably be voted out in the next elections. It's local parties will whither. All because Meretz itself today has no social value to Israel. It is not a social democratic party, but rather the anti-occupation party. The voters look at the results in Gaza and continue to reject that. Any other messages Meretz may have about Israeli society are lost.
