I deeply regret the pain that Israel suffers through the severe disease of Prime Minister Sharon. A heated debate has alreasy been unleashed over who was responsible for the hemorrhagic stroke of Ariel Sharon while under medication with a low molecular weight heparin. To calm those who feel that his is a singular event, I recommend the lecture of a book published back in 1978 by Pierre Accoce and Pierre Rentchnik: "Ces malades qui nous gouvernent" ("Those sick men who govern us") where the diseases of active leaders such as J.F.Kennedy, Pope Pius XII, Salazar, Chrushchev, Mao, Stalin etc. are discussed in depth. The series could be continued with the names of Tito, Pompidou, Mitterand, Jeltsine. Many fellow physicians will feel sick over the debate now started, so I should recommend for their consolation the lecture of a series of accounts by physicians on their personal disease, edited by H.M.Mandell and H.N.Spiro in 1987: "When Doctors Get Sick".
