Yitzhak Levy seems to be missing the point entirely. Metzger is now "tainted by suspicion of corruption" only because of Mazuz's pronouncement, and Metzger has no way to defend himself -- because Mazuz is denying Metzger the opportunity to prove his innocence, and is giving him no recourse. As someone who voted for the NU, I am extremely disturbed by Levy's support for Mazuz's McCarthyist tactics. Every Israeli, regardless of their political or religious orientation, and regardless of what they think of Metzger, ought to be very frightened by what Mazuz is doing here. He is assuming the role of a judge -- which he is not -- while at the same time depriving the accused of his basic right to due process. Tomorrow, he can do the same thing to anybody else. Even in Stalinist Russia, they went to the trouble of at least holding a show trial.
