The desires of the Egyptian people are not the problem of Israel or the US. The priority for them is regional stability and Mubarak provided that. He did fight against terror, he upheld the 1979 peace treaty, we did trade and Egypt became Israel's main supplier of gas. He kept the Suez Canal open and even permitted Israel to send a submarine through the canal to send a warning to Iran Israel has second strike capability. What is more important democracy for Egyptians or being sure that war won't break out? Any future government is going to be much more anti Israel & anti US to show that its not a puppet government who will just say yes sir to the US or Israel. What do you think the priority of the US or Israel should have been supporting the dictator who brought stability and made sure there was no wars or a new democratic government thats more hostile to the US & Israel? All countries put their own national interests first and the rest of the world second even if it means that you keep dictators in power and putting down democracy.

Israel's angry, bitter left must reclaim the language of hope

We leftists whine and complain, we only talk about how bleak and hopeless life is in Israel. We alienate all those Israelis whose support we need to bring political change.
