It's not my aim to urge Israel into difficulties, but I doubt if you're right with your assessment: If I was Syria, I surely wouldn't want to end up as an Iranian puppet. Besides, I think it's not without danger for Israel to go on watching American and European politicians hold talks with Syria and not to participate in these talks: Israel is probably still the best defender of its own interests that knows best about it's needs (Golan water or Golan wine). It might risk to find itself beyond everyone and see others make decisions about Israel's own future.
