Israel is a democracy and it is in a struggle for survival. Democracy is not something that happens once and then stays that way forever. It needs to be managed, cultivated and guarded by the citizens of the country. Israel struggles daily to maintain its democracy in the face of a billion enemies and constant attacks. Given that reality there are times when necessity dictates measures that fly in the face of democratic values. It is a balancing act that we are forced to perform for the good of our society and the future as a democratic state. Israeli Arabs do enjoy the same freedoms and rights as their Jewish neighbors and that is why this particular decision bothers me so much. It is a step back.There is room for improvement but there is in every country.In the wide view Israel is pretty damn good compared to many others.Let's not even talk about the Arab countries especially since we are both women...
