Are you refering to the fisrt Aliyah of the 1880s which accepted aid from baron de Rotschield?? if so they didnt expect anyhting from anybody and were dismayed at having to either accept his aid or fail.he established a winery and they worked very hard, others became owners of citrus groves, so i fail to see what you are talking about.if you mean the Old Yishuv of pietist jews who lived before the zionist movement , yes they were dependant on aid from abroad but more in the context of "supporting the scholars" in Israel. These settler aristocrates are something else all together, and yes I also wonder how long Mr average israeli is going to be willing to pay for them.
