I missed this thread last time out. It is misleading to say that Collins was assassinated. The Republican column was on site to attack any Freestate convoy that happened to come along and was in the process of withdrawing when the convoy belatedly arrived. A few shots were fired at the convoy and in particular at the officer who was obviously in charge - Collins. In other words the column did not go out to get Collins. The Black and Tans were a specially set up terror outfit in the pre-independence police force. As well as murder, their speciality was burning individual houses and city and town centres. Many of them had been officers in WWI. The highest ranking death in the Auxiliary police forces at that time, had achieved Colonel rank in the Great War. His death notice in the newspapers described him as a "Cadet". They had propaganda then too. Of interest to you folks in Israel may be the fact that many from these police units moved to the ME to join the Palestine Police.

Head of J Street Israel refuses to take the blame for lack of peace

Yael Patir, Israel director of the left-leaning U.S. Jewish body, sat down with Haaretz to talk about Trump, the gap between U.S. and Israeli Jews, and the growing anger at the Israeli peace camp. Though she concedes boycott efforts by some on the left have a negative effect, she rejects calls to keep peace efforts local.
