The six day war saw the Israeli use of conventional forces against other conventional forces. Now, like the U.S. in Viet Nam, the IDF has failed to adapt to the realities of irregular, guerilla warfare. They still apply conventional approaches as if this form of warfare can be resolved by military means alone. As such, all it can accomplish is temporary and eventually it will have to do this all over again - until it recognizes the huge political dimension of this form of warfare and addresses it. Eighteen years in Lebanon and all they managed to do was produce rubble and kill people. Had they addressed the political dimension of this form of warfare, they would not be fighting now.
