The Likud didn't forget that it was a free-enterprise party, and Netanyahu himself as Treasury Minister under Sharon dismantled the socialist state. Other parties picked up even earlier Labor's neglected concerns. Shas became the true helpers of the needy, others worried about "church and state" , even as Labor was member of various Likud coalitions. This goes on even today, with all the anti-Arab legislation being passed. Rabin himself had no concern for social matters, but fortunately his Treasury Minister did, so his own (second) term is remembered fondly. Still, using Generals as party leaders is a big mistake.
