    Why do crazy ideologues with no real interest in or understanding of the American public interest grab power? Who helps them grab it and/or allows them to? Why? These are deep philosophical questions that have to do with everything from economic theory to religious convictions to personal psychology -- people with more fear than love in their lives tend to behave more psychopathically than others. And wealthy Americans have some f'ed up family structures and values. Many of them got their wealth by exploiting others. Therefore they see the world as nothing but violent enemies trying to take their things. And they MUST have an ideology that justifies their having more than other people. Hence racism, xenophobia, suspicion. As a Washington insider, I can say without hesitation that AIPAC is the 800-lb gorilla here.
