Marcus has built a convenient narrative that at once ascribes to Netanyahu motives and readiness not in evidence, detracts from Obama's achievements at home and exaggerates the political stance of American Jewry. Netanyahu says he is ready for negotiations with the Palestinians without pre-conditions, except for refusing to halt the building of settlements, as agreed upon in the Oslo accords. Obama owes nothing to Netanyahu, the one who denigrated him as a candidate. Netanyahu has done nothing for Obama to help him advance the cause of peace except paying lip service. Obama cannot be held hostage to some of US Jewry. It is not a monolithic group and many are tired of Israel's antics.Threatening to hold back future contributions to Obama's re-election is the last thing that Marcus should do.
