These latest manipulations of right-wing parties to extort support for new legislation from Likud-members and other MKs which would circumvent and countermand the Supreme Court's ruling on the evacuation of Ulpana and would also legalize other settlements would have the most far-reaching, detrimental impact on Israel's democratic processes and on the efficacity and inviolateness of the Supreme Court. Here is Netanyahu's chance to detach himself from those rogue members of his coalition who are a threat to the democratic fabric of the country and thus to the country itself, and since he now has the strongest coalition in the history of the Knesset, he has no need to accede to their demands, especially when his political savvy tells him that this would incur an international outcry of major proportions. Let us hope he will avail himself of this chance to make the transition from being a political opportunist to proving himself to be a statesman at last.
