There is a malaise that has infected Israelis. Its foundations are a fear about security. In response, many arereaffirming the demand for a homogenous population of Jews. Unfortunately a significant number believe in having a population of like-minded Jews to the exclusion of all other Jews that do not share their more radical beliefs. Israeli leadership exploits the fears for security and helps galvanize the power of a radical zealotry that thrives on intolerance. The settler movement has become the source of zealots committed to taking free Palestinian land. They have Israeli leadership blind support; create and inflame the very conditions that result in security threats; express disdain for any rational thought that supports the greater needs of Israel for reconciliation with the Arab world. It is this zealotry that will assist the Netanyahu-Lieberman-Ultra Orthodox alliance move increasingly towards a facist state and ultimately the destruction of Israel.
