It is maddening that all over the Israeli press there is a full discussion going on over an offer that is only presumed to exist based on leaks from the Israeli government on a conversation held maybe even without the consent of the President. Maybe an offer was made, maybe not. There is no official claim from either government. And as Yossi Sarid postulates, most of the terms of the "offer" make no sense in the US context. Other Israeli papers state that Pollard is on the table, too. Dead or Alive? Who knows? So what is Israel offering the USA to continue this farce? If the Israeli government really wanted peace, it would offer the Palestinians something instead of trying to extort the United States. Uncle Sam had a bad decade and is broke. He got drunk in 2001 and was on his drunken sailor binge way far longer than expected. He'll have to sleep it off and then re-assess. He's just waking up, needs more than a shave and haircut and is just discovering he's been rolled.

The silenced history of the IDF's 'Mizrahi problem'

In 1951, a British-born officer wrote a report about the treatment of Mizrahi Jews in the Israeli army. It shows that there were already voices within the establishment warning against racism.
