cobblers. "it certainly isn`t in the best interests of the US to support Hamas terrorists" Why not. They supported Contras, Greek fascists massacres of those who fought the Nazis, Noriega, Suharto's genocide in East Timor, paramilitaries in Columbia, fascist juntas in Chile, Brazil and Argentina, Pol Pot when they wanted to punish Vietnam. Well you see, moralising like you do, only gets one so far. I think the American revolutionaries were also willing to sacrifice everything for liberty, so don't be so condescending. Nonetheless, Hamas once elected could have been given a chance rather than a fait acomplit. Their leaders have stated many times [and did so before the US and Israel trained and supplied a force to depose Hamas in Gaza] that a return to 67 lines with the PA negotiating and a referendum by the Palestinians would be something they would readily agree to. Even the EU did and still do favour bringing Hamas into the picture.
