Denis Ross is no light weight; he has the closest ties to the Likud party people from anyone in the Washington. Hillary Clinton is just plain great. Her reputation on the Senate Armed Service Committee is legendary; and during her eight (8) years on that committee the USA had troops fighting in the Middle East for 7 &1/4 years. Joe Biden, formerly the Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, worked with Golda Meir and assisted with the '73 airlift of USA supplies to Israel to win the '73 Yom Kippur War. George Mitchell was active in foreign affairs as Senate leader for 20+ years and then as chief negotiator for the Ireland-British conflict that eneded in the late '90s. Obama has access to almost expert in America he wants: he has consulted with Kissinger, Brzezinski and Richard Indyck many times. There are numerous younger individuals in both the State Depart and Nat Sec Council that have dedicated their carreers to this topic and region of the world. It's not the people it's strong political opposition that's hurting forward progress.
