Instead of the "Oh yes we are!", "Oh no you are not!" discussion about whether Israel is an asset or burden for the US, take a look at the the US bases being built in Iraq and Saudi Arabia. They allow the US to stockpile men, munitions and other military essentials such as electronic and intelligence-gathering assets, none of which are a facility that Israel offers the US. As these bases grow, the importance of Israel diminishes. BTW, attacks on General Petraeus do not add to the security of Israel either!
