Time is long past when subjugation of one people by another could lead to peace, when an army, clashing, not with another Army but with an occupied stateless people, could bring a definitive military solution. The lesson other nations (much more powerful than Israel can ever be) learned long ago at great expense, Israel is still ignoring, after 44 years of totally unsuccessful efforts, and surely cannot be said to be the smartest of all. It rather conducts itself as if it were an obtuse stubborn feebleminded. In the long term, in the case of Israel, it may prove to have been suicidal.-- "If men could learn from history, what lessons it might teach us. But passion and party blind our eyes, and the light which experience gives us is a lantern on the stern, which shines only on the waves behind us." (S.T. Coleridge)
