Before oil was discovered in good quantity in the Arab / Islamic countries those countries could have fallen off the earth for all the West cared about them. Yes there were trade routes and spices and other natural resources that were there and the Western empires colonialized them up to the turn of the 19th / 20 th century. Once oil became so important for the world especially post WW1 these countries became IMPORTANT. But that is it. Most of those countries are a "one trick pony" and they need protection by the West from one of their own. None of those countries want to fall under the rule of Iran as they were from the Turks during the Ottomon Empire. So world sanctions are working by the willing to place them there. In reference to Israel and sanctions against them it would be the easiest thing to do. Why are they not there ? Simple. For a tiny country they have a huge impact on the daily lives of the world. Not a perfect country but which one is ? But a more positive impact than a negative one. I will not go through the list of the things Israelis have come up with. I refer to Israel as the goose that lays the golden eggs. As long as they continue to do so they will be in the favorable eye of those that can impose the sanctions. At this point none want to kill off the golden goose.
